OUR STORY
WHO & WHY
The Thrifty Hippy is a family-owned business founded in 2014, built on a belief that great style is shaped by craftsmanship , individuality and a willingness to embrace contrasting influences.
That philosophy began generations earlier with our maternal grandmother whose appreciation for beautifully made clothing and expressive personal style continues to inspire everything we curate today.
Growing up in a small, tropical Latin American town, she valued garments for their quality, longevity, and craftsmanship. Natural fibers, intricate crochet, traditional tailoring, and thoughtfully constructed pieces weren't simply fashion- they reflected culture, history and the care with which they were made.
From an early age, she encouraged our self expression through clothing, believing that developiong your own character meant never being afraid to stand out, step forward, and express yourself authentically.
Today, based right outside of New York City, The Thrifty Hippy blends those old world values with the creativity, ambition, and constant reinvention found here. Our collection brings together timeless vintage pieces, carefully curated deadstock/overstock and silhouettes that celebrate individuality rather than a single aesthetic.
We believe personal style isn't about choosing between old and new, city and countryside, classic or contemporary.
It's about creating something uniquely your own.
HAND ME DOWN LESSONS
Here, we don't believe your style has to fit neatly into one category.
It doesn't have to be entirely vintage or entirely modern. Minimal or maximal. Soft or structured. Romantic or rugged. Country or city.
We believe that most personal style is often built from contrasts.
The tension between old and new.
The balance between quiet confidence and bold self-expression.
The beauty of mixing things that, on paper, shouldn't belong together- until they do.
The pieces you choose should tell your story.
That's why we curate garments with history, craftsmanship, and character, while encouraging you to style them in ways that are entirely your own.
Because individuality isn't found by limiting yourself to one aesthetic.
It's built by collecting the influences that have shaped you, embracing the ones that inspire you, and giving yourself permission to become something uniquely your own.
